Challenge Golf Vacations for the Fighter in You.

Challenge golf vacations aren't for the faint of heart.

Ever wonder why the best golfers in the world fight tooth and nail just to get into a U.S. Open? It's that fighter instinct that says "I can tame this course". Usually it's the course that comes out the victor but there's some kind of satisfaction knowing that you went in and gave it all you got.

The course may have pick you up and body slammed you like a 300 lb wrestler on steroids but you come out on the other side a little more humble, a little wiser, and a little better overall.

Challenge golf vacations leave no room for error. It's kill or be killed out there.

When you are on a challenge golf vacation you need all the strength and energy you can muster up.

No time for shopping with the wife or playing in the pool with the kids.

It's game on. Hitting 250 yards to reach the fairway, getting out of rough that's tall enough to hide a small truck, rolling a putt downhill that is "faster than hot snot out of a chrome nostril" (David Feherty).

If this is the name of your game then get ready and hang on, here are a couple of courses that will drop you faster than the freefall ride at Six Flags.

Challenge Golf Vacations at The Shoals (Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail)
Fighting Joe and The Schoolmaster are two gems of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail located on the banks of the Tennessee River in northern Alabama. (I actually have a page dedicated to the Robert Trent Jones Trail, but I couldn't pass up listing these two courses on the Challenge course page.)

These courses will chew you up and spit you out. I have actually lost some friends due to this course (rest in peace). Luckily I have made it out, not totally unscathed but I made it out.

Just looking at the yardage of these courses will make your stomach churn.

Fighting Joe - 8,092 yards

Are you kidding me!!

The Schoolmaster - 7,971

What, you couldn't find an extra 29 yards....please.

These courses would make for a great three day weekend. You could play the courses two or three times and still have enough time to check out some of the local scenery.

If flying, the Huntsville, AL Int'l Airport is only 45 minutes away or Muscle Shoals, AL has their own small airport.

Staying at the Marriott Shoals Hotel & Spa in nearby Florence, AL will give you a chance to relax at a luxury hotel with great amenities.

Visiting the shoals area will also give you a chance to experience an older town steeped in music and art history.
