O.k. If you are playing the entire Trent Jones Golf Trail at once then The Shoals is probably the best place to start. You will be fresh and you will need to be to take on the two monsters that kickoff the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail
The Shoals,
located in Florence, AL, has 36 holes that will test your skill and might. Just opening in 2004 these two fresh courses (The Fighting Joe and The Schoolmaster) combine for over 16,000 yards of pure golf!
The Fighting Joe, A whopping 8,092 yards is long, long, and really long. It's a links style course that is straight forward. You can see the greens but you might need to book your ball on the next plane to get it there.
Links style course, yes. By the North Sea, no. More like the Tennessee River. Not quite the same but still beautiful.
The second course, The Schoolmaster(named for President Woodrow Wilson) is a tree lined course that serves as a traditional course with wooded scenery, rolling hills, and spectacular views. This monster measures 7,971 yards. Disappointing, huh? Not 8,000 like it's brother The Fighting Joe.
Don't let The Schoolmaster fool you, it may in fact be tougher than The Fighting Joe. It is a shot makers course so study up, do your homework and don't let The Schoolmaster take you to school.
